The symbolism of “God opening a new door in our lives” is a big one to Terri & Danny. He proposed to Terri in the doorway of their church, asking her to step out in faith and join him in marriage, as they walk through new doorways in life, together. We had so much fun together on our quest for the perfect doorway. J I’m so excited about being a part of their special day…
Sarah & Trent’s wedding last weekend was a deeply spiritual event. You could just FEEL the presence of God in that place! They were married underneath a giant oak tree overlooking the Stono River at Wide Awake Park, the original site of Wide Awake Plantation. Cami & I got to know Sarah and her family during our time at Ashley River Baptist, where they all attend. She’s going to USC and studying journalism. (We were thrilled to loan her a film camera for one of her photography classes.) Trent graduated from Clemson. (I’m not sure exactly how THAT works.) J They went on a mission trip to India together. And he proposed around Valentine’s Day.
Some of the unique things I loved about their wedding include: the beautiful array of colors for the bridesmaids dresses; the peacock feathers in boutonnières, the flower girl’s basket, the reception tables, and the wedding cake; the candle jars for the unity candle, the moss pillow for the ring bearer, the prayer requests at each food station for the different people groups around the world, the contra dancing lessons at the reception, the throwing of spices instead of bird seed at their departure. It’s the beginning of a new year. So what better way to celebrate the close of 2010 than to share some of my favorite images from my last shoot of the year. On the last day of the year, indeed during the last hour of daylight, I was out at the beach doing what I love doing most! J I have photographed Elise and her family before. And I can say she is one of my FAVORITE little models. It was chilly and windy out on my favorite stretch of Folly Beach. But Elise (and her Mom & Dad who joined in on a few shots) was a real trooper! We had a great time and closed the year with some really fun images.
I had a SUPER EARLY photo shoot a few weeks back for Coastal Cardiology. It was one of those days that was absolutely FREEZING here in Charleston. I had to be on-site at 6:30am to set up and photograph the exterior of their building in that pre-dawn light that gives the sky that dramatic blue color and makes the interior look so warm and inviting. I set up three SB-800 flashes with full CTO gels on them to light up the building. Then, bundled up like an Eskimo, I waited by my tripod for the light to be just right. I shot with my Nikon D3 (set to tungsten white-balance to give the sky that saturated blue) with a 14-24 f2.8 lens.
After I got my shot, I went in and set up for head shots of all the doctors. These had to be completed before patients began arriving at 7:45! I decided to use a giant 36” shoot-through umbrella, for the main light, with two SB-800s firing through it. I placed a white light-disc on the opposite side for fill. In the past, I might have used a main light and a fill light. But I’ve really been liking the effect of my new head-shot lighting set up because it produces only ONE catch-light in the eye. If I use a main light AND a fill light, this produces TWO catch-lights…not quite as natural looking. A third SB-800 provided a hair light to complete the look I wanted. All the head-shots were done with my D3 mounted to the 70-200 f2.8. All the flashes were triggered by an SB-900 in Commander Mode only, via RadioPoppers. Enjoy!
