Wireless Lighting Workshop

My good friend and fellow photographer, Matt Daniel, shared these scenes from the Wireless Lighting Workshop earlier this week. Yes, the nice policeman really did ask us to move the vintage limo off the historic brick street. J

Wireless Lighting Workshop

My heart was beating, my head was spinning, everything was happening so fast! Before I knew it, Virgil was introducing me and I was ON!

I’m scared to death of public speaking. But I LOVE what I do and love sharing my passion with others! So after the initial jitters wore off, everything went great. My Wireless Lighting Workshop was held at Virgil’s gorgeous studio at CVI Photography. It was hosted by the Professional Photographer of South Carolina. And it was sponsored by folks like Nikon, RadioPopper, Zenfolio, MPIX, and Canvas On Demand. We had a fantastic turnout with about 40 photographers from around the state, some as far away as Greenville! I did a short presentation about the principles of wireless lighting. Then we went out into the historic alley behind the studio and did a LIVE photo shoot…no pressure there!!! J That was followed by dinner, fellowship, and networking. Finally we reconvened to review the images and have more discussion on tools and techniques. It really was a BLAST!

We couldn’t have pulled it off without the generous contributions of many talented folks. I have to thank Virgil, Eddie of ProWedding Entertainment, Frankie of Flowers by Frankie, Juliet of Juliet Elizabeth Photography, Molly of D’Lish Desserts, Dwight of Royal Limousine, Pamela of Makeup Artist Charleston, and my lovely model and favorite client, Brittany McDougal. The best part about the workshop is we raised a ton of donations, including lots of dog food, to donate to the Charleston Animal Society. Many thanks to everyone who participated and everyone who attended!!!

Jody & Gerald are Engaged!

I truly enjoyed hanging out with Jody & Gerald during their Engagement Shoot. I photographed Jody’s sister’s wedding a few years ago. So it’s been a real treat reuniting ties with her family and getting to know her better, and see what a beautiful young lady she’s become. I knew Gerald & I were going to hit it off as soon as I met him with his famous baseball cap. If he could wear that thing at the wedding, he probably would. J He’s so laid back, easy going, and fun to be around. I’m SO EXCITED about being their wedding photographer!!!

Holly & Joseph at Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian

I have to send out a HUGE thank you to my good friend and fellow photographer, Richard Middleton, for referring Holly & Joseph to me. They were so much fun to work with!!! Our quirky personalities, love of a good laugh, and appreciation for classic rock matched up perfectly! :-)

Holly & Joseph were married at the gorgeous Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian church. I LOVE shooting here. The ceremony was beautiful, especially with the sanctuary all decorated for the holidays. Their reception was at Alhambra Hall...one of my favorite reception venues. As always, Frankie did a beautiful job with the floral arrangements. And DJ Doug kept the party rockin'.

After watching the Music Video, click here to check out the rest of their wedding photos.

CONGRATULATIONS Holly & Joseph! You guys were AWESOME!!! Keep the flame alive...

Adrienne & Corey at Dunes West

I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Adrienne & Corey over the last year. They are such a neat couple and SO photogenic!

Last week they tied the knot at Dunes West. It's such a beautiful venue with a great staff! My good friend and fellow photographer Kate McKinley was shooting with me that day. We had just enough time to photograph Corey and Adrienne's "First Glance" as well as portraits of the two of them around the grounds before the rain came. Hey, that's supposed to be good luck for them, right? :-) Doug Farmer, my favorite officiate in town, united them. Eddie L from ProWedding Entertainment, my favorite DJ in town, rocked the reception. And Corey's Mom made the cake!!!

Enjoy the slideshow at the bottom of the post. Then Click Here to see the rest of their images. CONGRATULATIONS Adrienne & Corey!!!

Heather & Sam at Trinity United Methodist

Heather & Sam were married Saturday at the historic Trinity United Methodist Church. As a visual artist, I absolutely LOVE military weddings! :-) Heather & Sam's was no exception. They were both so photogenic, easy going, and wonderful to work with. Their reception was held at the Dunes West Club House. These are just a few of my favorites. Click Here to see the rest of their AMAZING story!

CONGRATULATIONS Heather & Sam!!!

Joy & Michael on the Carolina Girl

Joy & Michael had an AMAZING wedding celebration last weekend!!! Their day started out at the fabulous Wentworth Mansion...a beautiful and historic place I always love photographing in. They were married on the Carolina Girl Yacht with The Battery as our scenic backdrop. Camille did a fantastic job as usual orchestrating everything. All of Joy & Michael's friends and family were on board to help them celebrate. So the party went on non-stop throughout the evening as Captain Bob and his crew took us on a romantic cruise all over Charleston Harbor.

Click Here to see the rest of their photos. CONGRATULATIONS, Joy & Michael! You guys are an AWESOME couple!!!

Adrienne's Bridal Portrait

I photographed Adrienne's Bridal Portraits the other day. Isn't she UNBELIEVABLY beautiful?!? We got so many awesome images from her shoot! This was one of the very first ones.

I loved how this shaft of late afternoon sunlight was making the fuzzy ferns glow. So while she was in the changing room, I had figured out that I wanted to place her here where her veil would get that same angelic rim light. Then I popped up a Nikon SB-800 in a small EZ-Box on a Bogen 3333 lightstand off to her left. (Ask me why her left next time you see me.)

Here's the "before" without the SB-800. I had a slight warming filter on the remote flash and triggered it via a set of Radio Poppers. They were shot with a Nikon D3 and 70-200 f2.8.

Julie & Howie's Wedding at The Citadel Beach House

I can't believe it's been EXACTLY one year since Howie & Julie first filled out that contact form inquiring about our photography services for their wedding! A few months later I got to photograph their AMAZING e-session on Seabrook. It feels like this all happened just a few weeks ago! Where does time go?!? :-)

I originally met Julie & Howie at a Johnson & Wales Alumni Event that I was photographing. We hit it off right away because we have a lot in common...we love dogs, the great outdoors, and hanging out with friends ALMOST as much as they do. Their cool website reads:

"It’s no wonder Julie and Howie fit together so well. They will often take off for a weekend with their dog Riley for mountain biking, hiking or camping on one of the many islands around Charleston. They enjoy taking friends out on the boat to experience the amazing sunsets that only Charleston can offer! And if Howie has any reason at all to fry a turkey, you can rest assured -- he will! Truly two kids at heart, these two love to have a good time with good company!"

I had an UNFORGETTABLE time photographing Julie & Howie's wedding. My favorite parts were Riley's role as the ring bearer, the dramatic beach shoot, and the surprise fireworks display at the very end. After the slideshow, Click Here to see rest of the wedding photos. CONGRATULATIONS you guys!!!

Apryl & Ben at The French Huguenot Church

Apryl & Ben were a kind referral from my friend and wonderful fellow photographer, Karyn Iserman. We originally met on Valentines Day last year. As much "in love" as these two are, I thought that rather fitting. :-) Since then I've enjoyed getting to know them through their fun Engagement Session and Apryl's gorgeous Bridal Shoot. We photographed the Bridal Shoot on historic Church Street since that's where Ben proposed to Apryl. Awww....

Apryl grew up in Charleston. Ben's family moved around a bit, but finally settled here. The two met in high school. But they didn't really start dating until they re-connected at a football game during her senior year of high school when he was home visiting from college. How romantic!

Their wedding day was absolutely perfect. After a rainy week, the weather was beautiful! They were married at the very photogenic French Huguenot Church downtown. The fabulous Melissa of Charleston Celebrations kept everything running smoothly. And the reception was at the Society Hall, just a few blocks away, where the Mighty Kicks rocked the house!

Apryl & Ben were so much fun to work with and so photogenic in front of the camera! Click Here after watching the slide show to see the rest of their photos. CONGRATULATIONS, Apryl & Ben!!!

Amy & Evan at The Mills House

Amy & Evan were married at The Mills House on Saturday. My good friend, Robbin, was helping me cover the action. We had a BLAST from the minute we got there until the Carriage whisked the happy couple into the night. :-)

I photographed Amy & Evan's eSession out on Folly Beach earlier this year. They did such a great job that we ended up with tons of fantastic images. So we picked a bunch to put in one of our popular Photo Guest Books, which was a hit!

Amy & Evan went to MUSC together, working there before moving to Richmond, where Amy is a nurse and Evan is a Doctor of Internal Medicin. They are so AMAZING together! After the slideshow, Click Here to see the rest of their photos.

CONGRATULATIONS Amy & Evan!!!

Rindy & Josh at Blessed Sacrament

Last Saturday turned out to be a gorgeous day! What better place to be than at Josh & Rindy's wedding! I've had so much fun getting to know them over the last year through our get-togethers, phone conversations, engagement session, Rindy's bridal shoot.

Josh proposed at Disney World by having the divers in the big tank at dinner hold up a sign asking Rindy to marry him! Isn't that AWESOME!?! He and Rindy's brothers are really in to motorcycles. Since I used to be a motorcycle fanatic myself (owned a half-dozen or so in my life) we had an instant connection. Plus Rindy's Dad is a big photo buff...how cool is that?!? On top of all the mayhem of planning a wedding, Rindy was studying for her MCATS....now THAT's impressive!

Josh and Rindy have been dating since middle school. They truly are a match made in heaven. After the slideshow, CLICK HERE to check out the rest of their pictures. CONGRATULATIONS you guys!!!

Jenna & Amit at Patriots Point Pavilion

Jenna & Amit are a rare couple! During their fun Engagement Shoot downtown, I discovered just how well they fit together, and how full of life they both are. So I know I was going to have a BLAST on their wedding day...which TOTALLY came true!!! :-)

I caught up with each of them at their respective beach houses. Then we headed over to The Pavilion at Patriots Point. The weather was perfect...light breeze, not too hot, just right! It's always a pleasure to work with Amanda at Southern Chic Weddings...and today was no different.

The reception was held under the Big Tent. With an exceptional selection of music (way to go Amit), and a guest appearance by the most amazing Billy Joel tribute soloist I've ever heard, everyone had a great time. Click Here to check out all the photos.

My heartfelt CONGRATULATIONS to Amit & Jenna!

Aroostook F-Stops

A photography club in Northern Maine, The Aroostook F-Stops, made us today's featured photographer on their website. The really neat part is his wife went to the same school I did in the Congo (DRC) a few year's before me! How cool is THAT!?! Anyway, we are SO EXCITED to be honored in this way. Check it out at http://www.thearoostookfstops.org/.

Adrienne & Corey's eSession

Adrienne & Corey are getting married December 12th. So the other day we hooked up downtown to do their Engagement Shoot! It was a FANTASTIC afternoon with the sunlight sifting through the trees and buildings with a magical glow. Adrienne & Corey were fun, easy going, and a gorgeous couple. I CAN'T WAIT to photograph their wedding!!!

Kristin & Eric at The Sandcastle

Kristin & Eric had a FABULOUS wedding at The Sandcastle on Kiawah Island last week! They live in Winston-Salem, but Kristin spent many fun summers on Kiawah during her younger years. So it was only fitting that she add yet ANOTHER wonderful memory to her collection of "Happy Days at Kiawah"! :-)

Enjoy the slideshow then Click Here to see the rest of their Online Gallery.

CONGRATULATIONS, Kristin & Eric! You guys were AWESOME to work with!!!

Bulow Plantation

For those who are planning a Wedding Reception, Rehearsal Dinner Party, or Corporate Event in Charleston...and want a more rustic venue to...I HIGHLY recommend looking into The Plantation at Bulow. I photographed the NACE Meeting there this week and captured this image at dusk. It really is a beautiful location!

Josette & Dante at The Citadel

I've been looking forward to Josette & Dante's wedding for a long time! They are such a cool couple...truly into each other...yet so giving of each other to others. Read more about them and see their Engagement Portraits on their wedding website. They live in Charlotte now. But they absolutely LOVE the beauty and grandeur of Summerall Chapel on The Citadel campus, so they decided that's where they wanted to tie the knot!

I met up with Josette and her entourage at the Holliday Alumni Center. She was STUNNING in her wedding gown! Once everyone was ready we headed over to the courtyard outside the chapel for photos. It was a beautiful day and the lighting was fantastic outside. After Josette left, Dante arrived with his posse. He was looking sharp and ready for some fun. After photos with the guys we all moved inside for the ceremony. I just love how regal the inside of the sanctuary looks in photos...I love shooting weddings here. Afterwards we headed back over to the Alumni Center for an UNBELIEVABLE reception!!!

I just had a great time capturing all the fun flavor of Josette & Dante's wedding day. Click Here to check out the rest of the photos. CONGRATULATIONS you two!!!

Erin & Jason at Harbor Club

Erin & Jason are friends of ours from St. Andrew's Family Fitness Center where we work out. So it was extra special for me to be able to celebrate their wedding day with them AND capture all the joy of their Big Day!

It started at the Harborview Hotel with preparation photos of Erin, followed by their "First Glance" on the grand staircase. After that we spent some time in and around Waterfront Park creating some beautiful images. It was a gorgeous day, Jason was looking SHARP, and of course Erin was STUNNING in her wedding gown! We circled back around, ending up at the Harbor Club, where the wedding took place on the Pavilion as the sun was setting over the cityscape.

Later we noticed how dramatic the moon was that night. Erin & Josh were so adventurous and gladly slipped out with me to create an amazing image of them beside the Pineapple Fountain with the moon overhead! Click Here to check out the rest of their images. CONGRATULATIONS Erin & Jason!!!
