Jennifer & Bret

Last wedding of the year...and what an AWESOME one it was! Jennifer & Bret met while working at Dixon Hughes, PLLC - one of my favorite corporate clients in town. Jennifer has the sweetest, most bubbly personality...Bret is a true "man's man" and very serious cyclist. After Jennifer's three beautiful sisters helped her get ready, she and Bret shared a private "First Glance" together in the sanctuary. It was a time to hold each other tight, express their love for each other, and just enjoy the calm before the mayhem began. The ceremony was held at the always-photogenic Summerville Presbyterian Church. Many thanks to Pastor Mike and Cathy Ward, their wonderful wedding planer. I love that spontaneous burst of laughter during the vows. And isn't the flower girl asleep on the pew just the most adorable thing you've ever seen?!? The celebration continued at Medicine Wind Farms, a fantastic little horse farm with a rustic reception hall that provided the warm ambiance for the party. When I arrived and saw the wonderful rich green paint on the outside of the hall, I waited for the newlyweds to arrive so I could get this next image. At the end of the evening, as the party wound down and the guests lined up outside to blow bubbles, I peaked inside just in time to grab this shot of Bret's quiet strength as he waits for Jennifer to share a loving hug with her Dad. Jennifer & Bret, I couldn't have ended the year on a better note than spending it with you! THANK YOU for being such a beautiful, fun, loving couple...your energy is CONTAGIOUS!!!

Hi!
I'm Katie Hart and I'm a photographer in Columbia, a member of the ppsc. I've spoken to you briefly via email, but I was recently glancing over your blog- I really love your work- and I was wondering if you'd mind sharing a few of your techniques with me. I've just started working with some off camera lighting (alien bees and sb800 on a stick) and it's a blast. You can see my attempts here: http://www.khartphoto.com/Melissa/ . It makes reception pictures and formals have soo much more pop. I can see from your photos that you've done well mastering these techniques.
Specificly I was looking over you gallery of Jennifer and Brett. It looks like it may have been a challenging wedding, lighting-wise. Looks like you had to use what window light you had available, then a light on a stand (in an umbrella?) in the church. I was wondering what you did with the reception photos- they're great. Did you used some type of light on the room balanced with the ambient? You get such nice modeling on the guest's faces as well as a bright background and hair highlights. I'm always kind of hesitant to go much higher than 400 iso on my d200, but you shoot Nikons also, don't you?
Anyways, sorry to be so abrupt in my questions, I'm just trying to get myself pumped up for a great new year. If you don't have time to discuss now, maybe we can chat at convention. Thanks!
