Creative Lighting Seminar

Last night our PPofSC Coastal District group of photographers came over for a little presentation I did on the Creative Lighting System I frequently incorporate in my work. We had an EXCELLENT turnout and everyone seemed to have a great time. I basically shared my philosophy on lighting and explained all the tools and techniques I use to add impact to my images. I also shared some of my resources such as http://www.strobist.com/, and inspirations such as Dave Black and Joe McNally. Plus I did some live shooting with the images popping up on the big screen for everyone to see what was going on. Here's one of my friend Charlie Thiel...his mistake for sitting in the front row! ;-) Many thanks to Jennifer Easler for organizing everything and bringing so many goodies to eat!!!

I just wanted to thank you for the invitation. I thoroughly enjoyed the meeting and the people. After last night and reading on the websites I will need to buy some equipment to start practicing.

Thanks so much for letting us crash your PPA party last night! I really enjoyed the lighting demo and seeing how you made it work. The coolest or most descriptive part for me was when you went through various shots you'd taken and explained which lights you'd used and where, etc. I don't know if you have a Fong dome, but I've seen great results from using one of those on a stand alone flash at a reception.

I also LOVED the shot of the catalytic converter people and how you had set the camera to tungsten and gelled the lights. Or the same of the shot in the garage with the florescent lights. I've never been into using gels, but those were two really smart applications of their use! Are you familiar with Rosco gels? You can get one of their sample packs for free and their little gels fit perfectly on a flash.

A BIG thanks to Chris & Cami for a GREAT coastal meeting. I felt like I was listening to a convention speaker - Thank You, Thank You! There must have been about 20 of us present including potential members. Great to see old faces (well not old as in old...) and new. Chris sure knows his stuff about creative lighting and keeping it simple as well as making it look so very easy and non-technical. (even though it is technical - he made it look like even I could do it.) :) Anyway, I walked away very inspired.
Thanks again!

Just wanted to say thanks to Chris and Cami for hosting the Coastal meeting last night. Chris you know how to light an event and an individual very well, and we appreciate you sharing your technique, and giving us a new outlook on how to improve our craft. Lovely studio, and a great turnout.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Chris and Cami Smith for so graciously hosting our Coastal Meeting. Their home/studio is gorgeous and Chris did a fabulous job of showing us his method of on-location, off-camera lighting. It almost makes me want to go out and buy a Nikon...well, almost. : )

I would also like to thank everyone who took time out of their busy schedules to attend this month's meeting. We had a great turnout (almost 20 people!...well, okay 20, if you count Henry, the dog) and we all learned alot. There were some new faces as well as some faithful Coastal friends. Thanks to everyone who showed up!
